Have you ever been Leaf Peeping? Yeah, well me neither, or at least not intentionally, until we took an autumn trip to New Hampshire. We flew into Boston. We almost didn’t make it due to a 4-hour-delayed flight that put us into Boston at midnight with a 2 hr drive after that up to Laconia, NH. After many phone calls with my parents who were up there a few days before us and with Southwest, we decided it was best to keep the flight as it was and get a hotel for the night and wait for my parents to pick us up the next day. It was extremely disheartening to find that a cheap hotel room still set us back $300, but after we accepted the cost it was a pleasant trip up to Laconia, NH.
My parents scored an excellent AirBnB – 3 bed, 2 bath, great kitchen and a plethora of toys for the kids! The house was well lived in which was a little off putting at first, but we soon learned where everything was. When we needed a rubber band, we knew exactly which junk drawer they were in and helped ourselves 😉
Bash was in heaven in terms of the itinerary. We basically built the itinerary around what he wanted to do. On the first day of no rain, we found ourselves on the Hobo Railroad – a train ride around Lake Winnipesaukee. It was absolutely gorgeous with the leaves giving quite a show.
Bash’s next pick was a boat ride (of course!) on the M/S Mount Washington. It was a 3 hr tour on Paugus Bay of Lake Winnipesaukee. We didn’t partake in the brunch buffet, but it looked quite delicious and at $20/person is a good deal! Snow capped Mount Washington even made an appearance near the end of the ride.
The last major point of interest was the Castle in the Clouds, which was our pick. A waterfall was involved, which is always a plus with my family. And, taking an easy hike through the woods was a pleasant way to peep on some leaves (is that a thing??).
I had low expectations of a fall leaf viewing trip, but it really did overdeliver. Above all, we got to spend some good quality time with my folks. Bash and Ellie (and us of course) really do love their Mimi and Bubba.
