Ep 053 – The Habit That Ties It All Together

As a life coach, your day is often packed with tasks: client sessions, content creation, marketing, admin work, and your own personal development. It’s a lot to juggle, and without a clear plan, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and reactive.

Most coaches focus on checking tasks off their to-do list, but that approach can leave you scattered and unable to make meaningful progress.

What you really need is a system that brings clarity and structure to your day. That’s where a daily startup sequence comes in.

Why Most Coaches Feel Overwhelmed

When you don’t have a clear plan for your day, you can fall into the trap of:

• Focusing only on urgent tasks while neglecting important, long-term goals.
• Constantly reacting to distractions, like emails or last-minute requests.
• Ending the day feeling like you’ve been busy but not truly productive.

This lack of structure makes it hard to prioritize what really matters. That’s why implementing a startup sequence can make all the difference.

What Is a Daily Startup Sequence?

A startup sequence is a series of intentional steps you take at the beginning of your workday to set yourself up for success. It helps you start your day with focus, clarity, and a plan for accomplishing what’s most important.

Here’s an example of a healthy startup sequence:

1. Clear Your Workspace

Before you dive into your tasks, take a few minutes to tidy up. Put away papers, clear off your desk, and organize anything that might distract you. A clean workspace minimizes mental clutter and creates a fresh, focused environment.

2. Review Your Goals

Reconnect with your long-term and short-term goals. Whether it’s a big project, a revenue target, or today’s priorities, reviewing your goals keeps you aligned with what matters most and provides motivation to push through challenges.

3. Plan Your Day

Look at your calendar and identify your top three priorities—your Big 3 tasks for the day. These should be the tasks that move you closer to your goals. Build these into your schedule, replacing placeholder blocks from your ideal week template.

4. Center Yourself

Take a moment to prepare mentally and emotionally. This could be reviewing an inspirational quote, practicing mindfulness, or repeating a positive affirmation. Centering yourself helps you approach the day with intention and focus.

5. Tackle Administrative Tasks

Spend a short amount of time handling minor but necessary tasks, like checking emails or organizing notes. Taking care of these early prevents them from interrupting your focus later in the day.

6. Begin with Your Most Important Task

Start your workday by tackling the most critical task from your Big 3. This ensures you’re using your peak energy and focus to work on what matters most.

Without a sequence like this, it’s easy to fall into the trap of putting out fires and reacting to distractions. But with it, you’ll feel more in control, and your coaching business will thrive.

If you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed and want to take control of your day, try implementing a startup sequence. And if you’d like personalized help designing one that works for you, I’d love to help.
