Ep 057 – Why I Fired My Copywriter
If you’re like me, you’ve probably noticed the buzz around AI tools like ChatGPT. Everyone seems to be talking about how it can revolutionize your life and business.
And honestly, it’s not all hype—AI has some incredible capabilities. But, as a coach and copywriter who values authenticity, I’ve discovered that it’s all about how you use it.
In this post, I’m sharing how I’ve incorporated ChatGPT into my workflow while maintaining the human touch that’s so critical for great coaching and communication.
Why I Started Using ChatGPT
For years, I relied on a trusted copywriter to help me with content. But as ChatGPT’s capabilities improved, I started using it for brainstorming and generating ideas. Tasks like:
✅ Coming up with content ideas for podcasts and emails
✅ Generating program titles and marketing hooks
✅ Outlining sales pages and newsletters
It was a game-changer for saving time and sparking creativity.
But here’s the thing: While ChatGPT is amazing at spitting out well-worded responses, it’s not a replacement for the human element.
Where ChatGPT Shines
One of the best ways I’ve used ChatGPT is for idea generation. I’ll ask questions like:
•What are some common challenges life coaches face?
•What are compelling titles for a program on [insert topic]?
•What pain points do life coaches’ clients typically have?
It provides a lot of ideas quickly, and from there, I pick and choose what fits best with my message. It’s like having a brainstorming partner that never tires or runs out of steam.
I also found that ChatGPT can help with outlining. For example, I’ll input a topic for my podcast and ask it to create a structure. Then, I take each bullet point, refine it, and have ChatGPT elaborate using my input and insights.
Where ChatGPT Falls Short
ChatGPT struggles with one key element: connection.
While it can summarize content effectively, it doesn’t excel at weaving a story or injecting personality into the message. This is especially critical in email marketing, where storytelling drives engagement and builds trust.
For example, if I upload a podcast transcript and ask it to write an email, it will summarize the episode beautifully. But that’s not enough—it’s the story, the personality, and the flair that make the message resonate.
My Process for Using ChatGPT
Here’s how I use ChatGPT to combine the best of AI with the human touch:
- Start with Structure: I provide ChatGPT with a clear outline. For example, I might say, “Write an email to [client’s name]’s audience using this structure.”
- Add Waypoints: I copy and paste specific excerpts from a transcript, guiding ChatGPT to focus on key points.
- Refine the Output: Once it generates the content, I edit it to ensure it reflects the client’s unique voice and message.
This approach keeps the content aligned with my client’s style while leveraging AI to save time and boost efficiency.
Why This Matters For Life Coaches
As coaches, we rely on connection and authenticity to grow our businesses and serve our clients. The fear with AI is that it will make our communication feel robotic or impersonal. But by combining the power of ChatGPT with your expertise and voice, you can create content that resonates deeply with your audience.
The Big Takeaway
AI won’t replace you as a life coach—but someone who knows how to use AI effectively might outpace you. That’s why it’s so important to learn how to leverage tools like ChatGPT while keeping the human touch intact.
